Dr. Loren Borud: Using Knowledge Outside of Practice

Outside of medical practice and teaching, Dr. Loren Borud offers his time and effort towards business consulting for firms in the healthcare industry. With over a decade of experience as a Harvard plastic surgeon, he brings expert advice to medical companies, especially for those dealing with biotechnology and surgery. Already, through Borud Consulting, he has served major US companies in the field of biotechnology.

Established in 2008, Borud Consulting has served a variety of clients for various aspects of business in the healthcare industry. Dr. Borud’s repertoire of business consultation work includes the innovation and design of surgical technology aside from marketing, strategic planning and medical microeconomics. With knowledge gained from his studies at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois, Dr. Borud is able to give balanced advice that is not only drawn from experience and study of medicine, but also from his understanding of business in relation to the field.

But aside from his current work with his self-owned entrepreneurial venture, Dr. Borud has had prior experience in the world of business consultation for the medical field. With Ethicon Inc., he was able to become part of the company’s think tank for product development and business strategy in the surgical sector. As a key opinion leader consultant, he was able to share his advice in matters of both science and marketing.

Aside from this service Dr. Loren Borud gives to the corporate world, he also shares knowledge with everyone through his book Plastikonomics: What I Learned as a Harvard Plastic Surgeon. In this book, he writes with an analytical perspective on the dynamics of the industry, covering topics ranging from the creation of plastic surgeons to the activities of consumers. The book also addresses various issues in the field as well, such as foreign travel for surgery and the reality of government healthcare plans.
